A New Plan

It’s time for a new plan.

There will be no gathering at Bosch Baha’i School this year.

After waiting eight weeks for a time-slot, it appears to me that there is likely no room available for us at Bosch.  At least not yet.  It’s likely a business decision.  Our participation numbers have been low these past several years and I’m sure the school is reluctant to reserve space for a small group when there’s a potential that a larger group can provide more revenue.

Even if there is room, I cannot make the trip this year due to my job situation.  So we would need an alternate coordinator/host.  And it is already mid-June, months beyond the day I typically start arranging presenters. That’s a burden I would not want to put on anyone.  So, a gathering at Bosch seems unattainable.

However, last year when we were initially told we could not use Bosch (later rescinded), I called the folks at the Desert Rose Baha’i Institute (DRBI) in Eloy, AZ just 12 miles from my home. We tentatively reserved the weekend before Christmas, 18-20 December 2015 for a gathering there.  NOTE: it’s only Friday through Sunday.  Note: The Grand Canyon Baha’i Conference starts Friday Dec 25 in Scottsdale – about a 2-hour drive north)

IMG_1432Logistics will be a new challenge and there’s a limit to how many can be accommodated, but if you go anywhere in December, the Arizona desert is a pretty good choice. (December temperatures typically range between 44F at night to 66F in the daytime).  DRBI has a two modern “bunk houses” (16 to 20 people each), two “family-sized rooms”, a few “hotel-like” rooms and maybe even some other spaces we can stay in. (for photos see http://drbi.org/DRBI/drbi-facilities-9.html) We’ll be performing in the “Round House”, DRBI’s original building that recently received some acoustic treatments. There’s a much larger hall, but it needs substantial acoustic work. (any volunteers?)

We will have a skilled chef, Mr. Jim Rust, to command DRBI’s commercial-grade kitchen and organize the several local volunteers who have offered to help make our weekend a success.

What I need to know, before I expend any more energy on this, is “Can YOU come?”

iIf so, send an email to my address  darrell at darrellsongs dot com (I think you can translate that)

If we have sufficient positive response –by the 15th of July 2015 – we’ll kick start the engine and roll forward with a new banner “Music Makers Weekend”.  New place, new name, but same game – we’ll focus on improving our craft and keeping ourselves on the spiritual path as we progress as musicians and performers.  Our topical sessions will be few and presented to all as a group.  But playing time will maximized and we’ll have a song circle on Friday and a show open to the public on Saturday evening.

So, share this development with serious musicians in your area and let me know by the 15th of July 2015 – Can you join us in December?
