Happy Ayyam-i-Ha to the team

I hope you are all well and happy and finding joy in your music!  As Ayyam-i-Ha approaches, we see that flood of email via Baha’i Announce reminding us of what great gifts Baha’i-oriented music makes for your friends this time of year.  I’d like to point you to our Artist Links page and encourage some shopping among your fellow MIW alumni.  If you have a website of your own to share, and it’s not already on the page, send me an email and we’ll add it soon.

A number of things have been happening of late that have the whole world’s attention. The recent demonstrations for justice and democracy made me appreciate even more the timeliness of our “Songs of Social Conscious” session conducted at our last Music Industry Weekend by Robert Gillies and Chris Rhue.

Inspired by the moment, and working with video production information provided by our video workshop with Robert Gillies, I ventured into the land of You-tube.  I now have a channel!  I’m learning many new things about the process that I hope to share with you at our next gathering.  Meanwhile, have a look at my first “talking head” music video for my song  “Have You Been There Too?”  and then at the second video for “Seven” – my tribute to the Yaran.  I’m using a Mac with iMovie to do the labels and still-shot effects.  There’s much to learn, because there’s so much you can do yourself!

For a beautiful Yaran tribute video – in multiple languages – see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7regvlPVBk    This production includes performance by our own Ali Youssefi and some other dear friends including Gustaf Besungu (Djembe and vocals) and Parviz Hashemi (violin)

Tyler Thompson is working his butt off in Las Cruces NM to raise $20,000 in order to join Up With People on their next world-tour.  He’s recently done everything from street performances to concert halls and is seeking corporate sponsorship. If you have any connections (or some cash), he’d love to have the support!  If you’d like to drop a little “sumthin-sumthin” in his tip jar, go to http://sites.google.com/site/tktstudios/ where you can contribute and/or
buy his CD.

Lydia Mills and Jorge Tapia, who rocked Martha Root Hall  last October with their Latin-folk World Music,  emailed to say:   We are so happy to announce that our CD  Acompáñame a Servir, a compilation of prayers and songs of our spiritual  path, is finally ready!  Nuestro CD Acompáñame a Servir, por fin ya salió!

You can buy it online through CDBaby, Amazon and Digistation (click on names for links)

Lydia said that if you are in the Yosemite and neighboring communities (that’s you Chuck, Ian, Karen),  just call local distributor Joy Marschall, and she will hook you up with one of the CDs!

The couple will be playing a show in Berkeley on February 27th.  You can find them on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Acompaname-a-Servir/164230910291500?v=info .  You do not need to be on Facebook in order to see the website.

I exchanged some email with our dear Jarome Matthew in China.  He and Felisha have encountered a few set-backs but are persevering.  Your prayers for their success would be welcomed.

Also in China, Kim Bowers (Workshop for the Arts) has opened his Mexican restaurant!  It’s called “Amigos” International Food Restaurant in Jiang Bei.  He has posted some photos on Facebook.

JB Eckl and wife Katie have added a new son Gabriel to their family.  Congratulations Eckl Family!

Phil “PhilHarmonica” Malberg is working on his CD with friends and family and reports they are “coming up with some great sounds”.   He also mentioned he might just go visit Russ Salton. (heads up Russ!)
